Overtime School of Wrestling

Wrestling

This year-round program will compliment and capitalize on the existing training for wrestlers at the Overtime School of Wrestling by being tailored to train and peak in accordance with wrestling training and maximize performance at selected competitions throughout the spring/summer as well as all of the other important phases of the calendar year.

Schedule/Concentration Overview

  • Term 1: March - July (Post-Season) approximately 4 months
  • Term 2: July-November (Summer & Pre-Season) approximately 4 months
  • Term 3: November - February/March (In-Season) approximately 4 months

Term 1: This will focus on adapting to new training following the completion of the Folkstyle season. One of the main objectives is not only to learn new exercises, but to prepare the body for subsequent stages throughout the year while maximizing sessions for overall improvement in strength. Training will revolve around the Folk/Freestyle/Greco calendar with an emphasis on peaking for state, regional, and national competitions.

Term 2: During this term, athletes will concentrate on developing the highest level of strength possible. With a base level of strength and stability having been established during Term 1, athletes will be competent in many of the lifts involved and capable of handling heavier loads. Volume and intensity will increase during this term as wrestling workouts decrease and once athletes have completed their competitive Freestyle/Greco season.

Term 3: During this term, athletes will maintain previous strength levels during their competitive winter season while peaking for predetermined dates of major state and national competitions. Consistency in training must be maintained during the athlete's competitive season to prevent detraining and subsequently, a loss in strength throughout the season. Volume during Term 3 will be low while intensity will remain high to maintain optimal levels of strength.
