Crystal Lake KIDS (SENIOR/NOVICE) PROGRAM INFORMATION

Program Information

The Overtime Kids Senior/Novice program is designed for dedicated grade school and junior high aged wrestlers who seek training beyond their seasonal club or school in Folkstyle, Freestyle, and/or Greco-Roman wrestling.

Kids Senior/Novice students will build on existing knowledge of wrestling fundamentals and competitive experience while developing and sharpening their technique. Each seasonal program is progressively structured to learn and practice advanced technique while building conditioning and improving existing skills, reflexes, timing, and performance in live wrestling. Students will be trained to reach a higher individual level through: 1) exposure to in-depth and detailed instruction on fundamentally-sound positioning and advanced wrestling technique; 2) critiqued live wrestling; 3) participating in challenging and intense practices; and 4) encouraging students to increase their physical and competitive limits.

•  Pre-Season: Instruction is solely focused on Folkstyle technique, structured drilling, and live wrestling with an emphasis on intense conditioning to prepare students for the season. With the start of competition just around the corner, the Pre-season is a prime time to gain new skills and enhance existing ones, sharpen reactions, and improve timing.

•  In-Season: Training for the In-Season is available only to students who are enrolled in programs for the current year. Classes for the In-Season will be held on Mondays. The agenda for every Monday class will be as follows: trouble-shooting, technique, drilling and hard wrestling, and/or conditioning.

•  Post-Season: The first few weeks of class will focus on Folksyle wrestling, so that kids who are ready to compete at post-season national Folkstyle wrestling tournaments are optimally prepared to do so. After those tournaments, the instruction will focus on Freestyle wrestling technique and strategies to prepare students for success at the numerous state, regional, and national competitions. The primary focus is to hone the skills that these students will need to compete successfully at the Cadet and Junior levels when they reach high school age, as well as at the younger levels of competition for those kids who are ready to compete sooner.
