The Overtime School of Wrestling raised the bar once again this year with unprecedented success at the 2010 Cadet and Junior USA Wrestling National Tournaments. Over 40 competitors from the school led way for Team Illinois to win team national championships in both Cadet and Junior freestyle divisions.
Overtime wrestlers won 19 All-American honors, including a staggering 15 finishes in the top four nationally. Wrestlers from Overtime also accounted for nine national finals appearances, and five national championships.
Sean Bormet, the head coach of the Overtime School of Wrestling, was ecstatic about his team's performance.
"I couldn't be prouder of their commitment to prepare, and of the courage and the confidence they displayed on the mat," said Bormet. "We've really been able to hone in on our training over the last few years, and the kids fully committed to our training plan.
"I'm equally pleased with the character and integrity with which they won and lost matches," added Bormet. "It's been a great summer!"
The five Overtime wrestlers who brought home individual national championships were Eddie Klimara (125 pounds, Junior Freestyle), Jared Cortez (112 pounds, Cadet Freestyle), Brian Murphy (140 pounds, Cadet Freestyle), and Ben Whitford, who won a pair of titles (125 pounds, Cadet Greco-Roman & 125 pounds, Cadet Freestyle).
The four other national finalists for Overtime included Edwin Cooper (140 pounds, Junior Freestyle), Chris Lopez (285 pounds, Junior Freestyle), Bryce Brill (119 pounds, Cadet Freestyle), and Sam Brooks (171 pounds, Cadet Freestyle).
Sam Brooks also won seventh place in the 171-pound Cadet Greco-Roman division, joining double-National Champion Ben Whitford as Overtime wrestlers who earned All-American honors in both styles.
Also finishing in the top three were Trevor Jauch (130 pounds, Junior Freestyle), Nick Dardanes (140 pounds, Junior Freestyle), Austin Marsden (189 pounds, Junior Freestyle), and Brad Johnson (189 pounds, Cadet Freestyle).
Sebastian Pique (105 pounds, Cadet Freestyle) and Angelo Silvestro (135 pounds, Cadet Freestyle) both finished in fourth place.
Wisconsin-based wrestler Alex Polizzi (215 pounds, Junior Freestyle) won sixth place for Team Wisconsin .
Rounding out the Overtime All-American honors this year were Nick Harrison (119 pounds, Junior Greco-Roman), who finished in seventh place, and Nick Proctor (160 pounds, Junior Freestyle), who won eighth place.
In all, Overtime wrestlers accounted for 15 of 29 (52%) of the Cadet and Junior Freestyle All-Americans on Illinois ' National Championship teams.
