Overtime Alumni Have Strong Showing at 48th Annual Midlands Tournament

Former Overtime athletes competed hard at the 44-team Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University on December 29-30, 2010. Winning the most prominent honor was 125-pound champion Brandon Precin of Northwestern, who won the Art Kraft Champion of Champions Award for the tournament, an award which is voted on by the champion at each of the 10 weight classes.

Two other past Overtime wrestlers made the finals at this year's 48th annual Midlands as well. Wisconsin's Andrew Howe, who was seeded #1, made it to the finals at 165 but suffered his first collegiate loss there since the 2009 NCAA Division 1 National Championship match. Jimmy Kennedy of Illinois, who was also seeded #1, took second place at 141 after losing by medical forfeit in the championship match.

Also placing at this year's 48th annual Midlands was Overtime alumni Chris Spangler, who went 3-0 to start the tournament, defeating #3 seed Tyler Caldwell of Oklahoma and #11 seed Ethan Headlee of Pittsburgh along the way, but ended up having to injury default in his final matches and wound up taking sixth place. Nick Dardanes, wrestling unattached for Minnesota, won five matches to take seventh place at 141.

Also competing in the tournament were past Overtime wrestlers Ryan Jauch (133, Northern Iowa, 3-2 record at the Midlands), Alex Polizzi (197, Northwestern, wrestling unattached, 3-2), Conrad Polz (165, Illinois, 2-2), Logan Arlis (125, Illinois, 1-2), Joe Roth (125, Central Michigan, 1-2), and Pat Greco (141, Northwestern, wrestling unattached, 0-2).
