Naperville Kids Senior / Novice Program Information

Program Information

This program is designed for dedicated grade school-aged wrestlers that consistently train and compete year-round in Folkstyle, Freestyle, and/or Greco-Roman. Enrollment is offered for students that seek year-round or partial-year training beyond their seasonal club or school.

Kids Senior/Novice students will build on existing knowledge of wrestling fundamentals and competitive experience while simultaneously sharpening a wrestler’s technique. Each seasonal program is progressively structured to learn and practice advanced technique while building base conditioning and improving existing skills, reflexes, timing, and performance in live wrestling. Students will be trained to reach a higher individual level through: 1) exposure to in-depth and detailed instruction on advanced wrestling technique; 2) critiqued live wrestling with well-matched partners; 3) participating in challenging and intense class practice; and 4) encouraging students to push their physical and competitive limits.

  • Post-Season: The first few weeks of class will focus on preparation for the Folkstyle national tournaments. The class focus will then turn to Freestyle wrestling technique and strategies to prepare students for success at the numerous in-state, regional, and national competitions.

  • Pre-Season: Instruction is solely focused on Folkstyle technique, structured drilling, and live wrestling with an emphasis on intense conditioning to prepare students for the season. With the start of competition just around the corner, the Pre-season is a prime time to gain new skills and enhance existing ones, sharpen reactions, and improve timing.

  • In-Season: Training for the In-Season is available only to students that are enrolled in programs for the current year. No guests will be permitted to participate. Classes for the In-Season will be held on Mondays. Given the busy schedule of the kids' wrestling season, these classes will be on a walk-in basis. The agenda for every Monday class will be as follows: trouble-shooting, technique, drilling, and maintaining motivation, as well as hard wrestling and/or conditioning with great partners.

Baseball, soccer, and/or a hectic spring/summer schedule for your young athlete(s) sound familiar? The Overtime staff believes it is important for young athletes to participate in other sports that they enjoy at an early age, since it is important they take the needed time and experience to decide which sport is truly right for them. Based on feedback from Overtime families in recent years, we have created the Flexible Gold program as an alternative enrollment option along with our Gold, Pre-Season, and Post-Season programs. The difference in the Flexible Gold program is that throughout the Post-Season, students (families) will have the option to attend any 2 out of the three classes offered each week.

For example, the Kids (Senior/Novice) Post-season classes are Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. So, one week a student may attend on Sunday and Tuesday and then the next week attend on Sunday and Thursday or Tuesday and Thursday; basically whichever two classes best coincides with other commitments/travel restraints for that given week. We hope this will enable enrollment in the year round program as our experience shows that continuity and consistency in training throughout the year provides greater short and long term wrestling development for the athletes.

  • PRESEASON: Pre-Season and In-Season Programs only

Students attend classes two times/week in the Pre-season and one time/week in the In-season.
